Robert Heide: In Search of Lost American Playwrights
When Robert Heide recently died, the theater community in downtown Manhattan paid tribute to him by recognizing his extraordinary achievement as one of the pioneer playwrights of the Off-Off Broadway Era. His plays were performed in such legendary theaters as Cafe Cino, LaMama, Theater For The New City among others. He was a member of the Barr-Albee-Wilder Playwrights Unit. However Heide’s work was never produced in Los Angeles and were, in a sense, unknown to our theater audience. This afternoon of readings from some of Heide’s short plays will right that wrong. Selections from these plays include Remember, The Bed, Mother Suck, and an excerpt from Tropical in Key West..
