Metanoia
Metanoia – A visual, sonic, and philosophical rumination on transformation. This piece indulges in the parallels between the micro and macro of human existence, creating both deliberate and unexpected juxtapositions. A collaboration between internationally acclaimed Movement Director Teresa Toogie Barcelo and Composer Joe Berry of the renowned electronic band, M83, the piece transports the audience into a state of surrender. Berry’s original score blends orchestral choral music, woodwinds, synthesizers, vocals composed of gibberish, chants, and melodic. Acting as vessels of sound and movement, the performers illustrate how transformation is the only universal commonality among us, the only absolute truth. With a diverse ensemble that consists of LA’s most brilliant interdisciplinary artists, including fiber sculptor Mimi Haddon, this piece utilizes puppetry, dance, and music to explore why and how our hearts change.
