Brandon Mathis (b. 1995) is a movement and visual artist, based in Los Angeles. Drawing upon LA for inspiration in his work, Brandon turns a blind eye to the glitz and glam, and focuses his attention on the rich culture and history of the city he grew up in.
Nostalgia, temptation, abstraction, and play, these are key elements of Brandon’s work. With a BFA in Dance and a BA in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University, Brandon combines his love of knowledge with his love of creation effortlessly. Utilizing his talents in dance, Brandon has had the pleasure of appearing in films and music videos for Beyonce and Solange Knowles, Miley Cyrus, and Pink. He has also shared the stage with world renowned talent at The Academy Awards, The Grammy Awards, and The American Music Awards. In addition to live performance, Brandon has been able to combine his creative instincts and movement capabilities in campaigns and visual efforts for the likes of Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Vogue, GAP, Jordan, Apple, and many more.
In his personal work, Brandon focuses on storytelling and world building through image and film making, as well as performance art. In those worlds art, dialogue about life, and culture, are channeled through healing modalities, afro-spiritual connectivity, and movement. His first short film titled B.L.U.E. — Print won five awards in the film circuit including, Best Experimental short at the Berlin Short Film Festival, and IndieFEST Film Awards. He was also awarded the Best New Filmmaker and Best First Film awards at Dance Camera West in 2023.
